Fabry Disease Chronic Kidney Disease
Fabry disease (FD) arises from an X-linked defect in lipid storage, whereby deficient or absent lysosomal α-galactosidase A (α-gal A) activity leads to systemic deposition of glycosphingolipids, mainly globotriaosylceramide (known as Gb3 or GL3). Deposition mainly affects the cardiovascular, renal, and neurologic systems, but can occur in all organs, and despite specific enzyme replacement ther...
متن کاملCerebral infarction in childhood bacterial meningitis.
Forty-nine children with complicated bacterial meningitis were studied. Thirteen had abnormalities on computed tomography compatible with the diagnosis of brain infarction; one had a brain biopsy with the histological appearance of infarction. Factors exist in childhood bacterial meningitis which are associated with the development of brain infraction.
متن کاملCerebral infarction pattern in tuberculous meningitis
Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) causes significant morbidity and mortality. The primary objective was to re-examine the concept of "TB zone" and "ischaemic zone" in cerebral infarction in patients with tuberculous meningitis. The secondary objective was to evaluate cerebral infarction, vasculitis and vasospasm in tuberculous meningitis infections. Between 2009 and 2014, TBM patients were recruited...
متن کاملIntrathecal Isoniazid for Refractory Tuberculous Meningitis with Cerebral Infarction
A 30-year-old Vietnamese woman, about 19 weeks pregnant, was admitted for acute cerebral infarction with stenosis of the left middle cerebral artery (LMCA), tuberculous meningitis, and miliary tuberculosis. Treatment with heparin, quadruple anti-tuberculosis therapy, and dexamethasone afforded prompt symptomatic improvement. However, she delivered a stillbirth, after which there was recurrence ...
متن کاملCerebral hemodynamics and endothelial function in patients with Fabry disease
BACKGROUND Cerebral vasculopathy have been described in Fabry disease, in which altered cerebral blood flow, vascular remodelling or impairment of endothelial function could be involved. Our study aims to evaluate these three possibilities in a group of Fabry patients, and compare it to healthy controls. METHODS Cerebral hemodynamics, vascular remodelling and systemic endothelial function wer...
